Making a tiny room into the workhorse you need can be challenging, but sometimes those challenges are the most satisfying fun a designer can have. This master bathroom in a 1957 Cherry Hill split-level was the perfect example: A miniature time capsule, complete with original tile and custom-made Formica vanity.
The goal? Space! The room needed a total overhaul to make it feel bright, spacious, functional and modern. The solution? To maximize every inch while keeping the palette simple and uncluttered.
The first order of business was the entrance into the room. The existing door-swing blocked the shower and took up valuable maneuvering space, so we switched it out for a pocket door. To do this we had to annex the linen closet from the hallway, which also allowed us to enlarge the cramped shower stall. To make up for the lost storage space, we cut an opening to the adjacent closet in the spare bedroom and stole 24" for a new built-in cabinet.
The rest came down to a slim vanity and matching medicine cabinet packed with smart storage, lots of good lighting, and a clear shower door to visually open up the space. Light, earthy materials give the room the serene, spa-like feel the client wanted. We love a good before-and-after, and this remains one of our favorites!
